Miss this in your presentation or speech and you’re leaving money on the table!
There’s an element that is sometimes forgotten when speakers or business professionals give a speech, presentation or demonstration.
One of the biggest items commonly missed in presentations is one of the most important parts of your business online marketing. And it’s not a glaring “everyone will notice” kind of mistake either like the sound system not working, or your microphone is not on, or your PowerPoint presentation isn’t playing. It’s one that is hidden to you and your audience until you know what it is. It’s like the saying goes, “You don’t know what you don’t know.”
So, what is this mystery component that is so important to your speech or presentation and your company?
It is your Lead Magnet or Free Offer!
Aside from the main purpose of doing your presentation, such as teaching, demonstrating or informing, the only marketing item that can definitely connect you to your audience AFTER the event is over is your Lead Magnet! Brochures, handouts and business cards can help build the connection, but a lead magnet SECURES it!
You should always give your audience members something from your presentation to remember you by. The last thing you want to happen is for the people who are listening and engaged in you and your content, is for them to forget about you after the event is over.
You do not want that connection to fade away! And there’s no better method than a free offer because it’s going to benefit them (all free offers should be a valuable item for your target market to have) and it creates a starting point for building a relationship with them because it adds them to your mailing list. And it’s also a great way to say “thank you” to your audience!
So, what is the best way to do this?
Well, if you have a sign-up form or a comment form for your spectators, add a space to the form here so they can fill it out to receive it. But make for sure you enter these contact names to your email marketing system as soon as possible, so they receive it right away! You do not want to be cavalier and delay this task to make them wait for days to get their free offer. They may forget about it and wonder what this email is in their inbox.
You also want to offer your lead magnet at the end of your presentation. Be sure to talk about the lead magnet and why it’s beneficial to them, and how they can get their copy. If you have a PowerPoint on the screen, show them where to sign-up online. If you don’t, tell them where they can sign-up verbally.
BONUS TIP: In order that you aren’t having to relay a long convoluted url, make a bit.ly or create a shortened customized url that points to the lead magnet optin page, so that you make it easy for people to remember or type into their phones.
